National Champion in several periods in the 1960s, 1970s & 1980s and Champion of Champions on a number of occasions; founder (and principle author) of Newbury Rules in the 1970s; ex president of the Society of Ancients, Life Vice President of the Pike & Shot Society; coordinating organizer of ‘Armageddon’ now ‘Colours’ Military Fair every year since 1977, Chairman of Newbury & Reading Wargames Society; retired as a lecturer in the Department of Archaeology at Reading University in 2007.
